"I came to CCNW to take sewing classes, which helped me to learn a new skill to make a living.
Now I am selling my products at the Studio. Thank you! "
Thanks to the remarkable generosity of a local donor our Community Studio opened in 2021 to provide a creative space for our workforce development classes in a large studio setting with more space and improved access for all.
By providing skill-building programs for local residents who are food insecure and who turn to the Community Center for help, we enhance their job opportunities, support their economic stability and help them on the pathway back to self-sufficiency.
Classes and workshops include job counseling and job skills training – such as sewing and design, construction skills, OSHA certification, language skills, computer skills, and entrepreneurship training.
Our sewing and design programs provide the skills and the tools to create a home-based business and the Studio includes a retail space where our sewing and design students and those learning entrepreneurial skills can merchandise and sell their beautiful hand-crafted products, receiving 100% of the proceeds. Every sale helps to lift a person facing financial hardship.
We are enormously grateful for the Community Studio - the donor’s generosity and commitment to our mission, the dedicated volunteers who helped to transform it to meet our needs, and the support of Firestein Property Management in working with us to make it possible. We also wish to thank the numerous volunteers who give their time and expertise to tutor, teach and support our programs.
Classes run at a variety of times throughout the week, Tuesday through Saturday. CLICK HERE TO SEE OUR AVAILABLE CLASSES AND PROGRAMS.
The retail spaces hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 am to 4 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 1 pm. For more information contact Celeste Potash, Program Manager, at cpotash@communitycenternw.org or 914.301.5417.
